Key Duplications – Keeping Your Keys Secure Will Keep Your Property Secure

Many modern security systems have been comprised by an unauthorized key duplication. Even though the “Do Not Duplicate” stamp is on a key, a non-professional key duplicator will continue to duplicate keys. Maintenance personnel, tenants, construction workers and yes, even your employees will have not trouble getting another key for their own use.

There are a couple of options to help with keeping a secure area as it should be, even if someone has been fired or quit and did not return a key. First, you can replace all of the locks that the key was for. This can be very time consuming and the cost will add up quickly.

Second, you can install an access control system and use proximity cards and readers. This too is costly, but you will be able to void a card without having to worry about the card being effective any longer.

Finally, there are a number of keys available nowadays that are only available at a specific authorized dealer. These dealers will keep your key information in a database and only duplicate a key with the proper authorization. The initial expense for the locks can be costly, but it is inevitably more cost effective in the long run.

When you are duplicating a key for your vehicle, there are a couple of important things to remember. First, find out if you key has a key code inside. Many times automobile keys have a microchip inside of them. If a key without the chip is placed in the ignition, it will not start the vehicle. This is a great security feature.

Second, be sure to try the key at your first convenience. If the key does not work where it should, (ignition, doors, trunk, or glove box), return to the duplicator for another. Nothing is worse than locking your keys inside the car, only to find out your spare key doesn’t work.

Protect your keys. Key duplication can take only a matter of minutes. Don’t leave your keys on your desk while you head for the company cafeteria. It is only inviting someone to have access to your home and your car at a later date.

Find a reputable NY locksmith to complete your key duplications. Not only is your key information more secure, your keys will usually work the first time around. If you are unsure of which locksmith to use, ask a friend or family member who they recommend. Chances are, they have been using the same locksmith for years. Hopefully, you will now as well.
